Song Said to Have Been Sung by Sam    page 8.

To celebrate, Will spun off a series of cartwheels.  Up until this particular moment, no matter how hard he tried, Will had not even managed to do one single cartwheel.  Even his magic powers could not assist him to do so.  When Darlene witnessed him doing a dozen cartwheels in a row, she made a mental note of the occurrence and betwen to suss out what could possibly have accounted for this sudden showing of prowess on the part of her slightly older but seldom wiser brother.

"How did you manage to pull that off?" Darlene asked in her most ingratiating manner.

"How did I do what?" asked Will.

"Oh, never mind," Darlene said thinking quickly.  "I was just thinking out loud."

Will, not one to carry a thought in his head for long, had begun asking Cog a question about his not being part of dot com.

"In the old days, when the Net was just starting out, we were confined to the box," said Cog not bothering to explain what he meant.  "Now we are as free as free range chickens."

"They lay the best eggs," Darlene said.  "Oh look, there's one over there, pecking away."

"An egg?" asked Will mischievously.

"A chicken," said Darlene.

"Where'd Cog get to now?"

"He's just remorphed himself," Darlene blurted and the then berated herself.  She had come very close to letting the cat out of the bag or in this case the cog out of the dog or is it the dog out of the cog?

Will hadn't noticed but Darlene had.  She had cottoned onto something that had escaped Will's attention.  Kisses were running through her head.  The more she thought about precious kisses blowing precariously in the wind, the madder she got.

"Merely for purpose of illustration," said Cog rematerializing, "The stuff that those guys eat is simply disgusting.  Still one has to play the part, I suppose.  Let me tell you though, the life of a Cyber-morph is not all it's cracked up to be.  Of yes, sometimes it's exciting and even glamorous.  At other times, it's nothing more that a diet of chick weed and worms."

"When all is said and done, you play the part very well," said Darlene just as sweetly as if she had actually meant it.  "It must be one of your better roles."
