Song Said to Have Been Sung by Sam    page 6.

"How do you know my name?"

"I make it my business to know the names of all those who know the song that Sam Song sang or is said to have sung."

Darlene was flabbergasted and more than a little irritated.

Will hesitated before reluctantly admitting that he had never actually heard the song supposed to have been sung by Sam and didn't know anyone who had.  While Will was lost in anticipation as to what Cog would say, Darlene jumped into the fray.

"Will, when it comes to grammar, you suck," said Darlene with as much exasperation as she could muster.  "And for that matter so does your little friend.  It's sang, I tell you.  The past tense of sing is sang not song."  Darlene paused for breath and immediately said,"Sam song sung is incorrect.  You've got it all wrong."

"Perhaps," said Will with a nonchalant air that he had no business possessing for he had not a clue of whereof he spoke.  He contented with giving Darlene a simpering sibling smile.

"You can't have sung and sang in the same phrase is what I have been trying to tell you.  You may say has sung or even had sung but never ever say Sam song sang.  It offends my finer sensibilities."

Darling Darlene, in one of her less darling but more daring moments, was perfectly capable of taking on the task of debating grammatice niceties with the President of the realm.  It has been said that the President demanded bodyguards after having been savaged by an encounter with the likes of Darling Darlene.  When it came to correcting speech boo-boos by adults, even an adult that looked to be a strange melange of cat and dog, Darlene showed no mercy and took no prisoners.

"That's exactly what Sam Song did," said Cog sounding miffed.  "Many years ago, Sam Song sang a song.  Don't tell me that you've never heard of Sam Song or the song that he is said to have sung."

Being rather gracious for a cybermorph, who were not known for their good manners, Cog refrained from referring to Darlene's hasty jump to the conclusion that Cog had spoken incorrectly.

"Cog's dreadfully right, Darlene," said Will turning a quick cartwheel because he relished it whenever his sister was wrong, which wasn't often enough to suit him.
