Sean's Birthday Present

Sean's Birthday Present is a story about Time Travel and how a lad who thought he had just turned ten turned out to be minus one hundred and nine. Actually some people think that he was minus nearly three-thousand years but that is going too far back into the dark grim past to suit my liking.

However upon researching the subject of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, the news is even  more drastic and terrifying than I had first thought. Sean, it seems, has travelled back almost three thousand years to the time that the Queen of Sheba met King Solomon, who was a Jewish king. The really scary part about this is that not only did the Queen of Sheba live a terrific number of years ago, but no one, at least no one in their right mind, has any idea where a country called Sheba was located.  Sheba was here one moment and it was there the next. It depends on who you listen to. Sean, if you do come across Sheba, please let me know.  Thanks.

It would seem that Sean has two problems.  He can't escape from Sheba because he has no idea where it is.  If you wish to go north or south or east or for that matter, west, you can hardly summon up the courage to make a decision when you have no idea which end is up.  The other thing is if you are lost in the dim past, which is eons ago, it is a terribly long trek back to the present.  There is a definite possiblity that you will be late for dinner.

The main thing is to be guided by the stars in order to make sure that you are travelling in the same direction every single night.  In reality it doesn't matter what direction you decide on.  No matter which way you go you will end up somewhere or other.

The Queen of Sheba meets King Solomon      King Solomon    The Denakil Depression

Good News!  Sheba has been located.   It is in the Yemeni province of Marib.  According to scholars, the Queen of Sheba's temple was built in the 10th Century B.C.  The temple was abandoned after the destruction of the Marib Dam, which may have resulted from a strong earthquake.  The destruction of the Marib Dam destroyed any evidence of the temple, which was only recently discovered by excavation.  So, Sean, if you do get this message, please realize that you do not need to be in the tenth century B.C. in order to visit the temple.  You can visit it in the present as the temple is being excavated by archaeologists.
