SAT – Vocabulary

  The ideal time to prepare for writing the SAT is while you are in grade ten.

The main emphasis for the language  section is vocabulary.  All the strategies in the world  will be of no avail if you are deficient in the realm of vocabulary.

SAT Vocabulary Exercise:   Who Belongs Where?

There were three neighbors: Mrs. Participle, Mrs. Gerund and Mrs. Vernacular, all aptly named.

  • They lived side by side.  The avaricious one lived in the western house.
  •   The one who turned verbs into nouns had a son who was a star basketball player.
  • The one who preferred to use the past perfect tense whenver possible had a daughter who was a cheerleader.
  • The one who spoke non-standard English had twin daughters, both of whom were stellar students., which of course was ironic.
  • The one who was avaricious did not live beside Mrs. Participle
